The red, black and white flags of Syria flapped through downtown Ottawa Saturday evening as three different groups came together for a protest against a potential military strike by the United States after alleged chemical attacks by the Assad regime.

Syria Solidarity, which supports Syrian interests in Ottawa, NOWAR-PAIX, a local anti-war and anti-racism group, and Ottawa Peace Assembly, a coalition supporting peace and justice, met at the human rights monument on Elgin Street. The group of about 100 people wound its way along Rideau Street and through the ByWard Market, finishing in front of the U.S. embassy.
