Baillie announces PC shadow cabinet – Strong team will work with new government, hold them accountable
Today, Progressive Conservative leader Jamie Baillie announced the Official Opposition shadow cabinet.
Baillie says the new team of PC critics will work with the new cabinet where possible and hold them accountable to the people of Nova Scotia when necessary.
“We are eager to get to work,” said Baillie. “We have a great team from across the province. They have a wealth of knowledge and real-world experience to draw on.”
Baillie says our province faces some very serious challenges.
“We need to turn our economy around and create jobs,” said Baillie. “Each PC member is dedicated to working hard on behalf of all Nova Scotians and ensuring the new government does its job.”
Alfie MacLeod will be the PC Caucus Whip and Deputy Caucus Chair. He will be the critic for Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal, Natural Resources, Sydney Tar Ponds Agency and the Sydney Steel Corporation Act. MacLeod has a long history of public service including Speaker of the Legislature. He represents the new constituency of Sydney – Mira River – Louisburg.
Allan MacMaster will be the critic for the Attorney General and Justice, Service Nova Scotia and Municipal Relations, Gaelic Affairs and Aboriginal Affairs. MacMaster holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from St. Francis Xavier University and was employed with BMO Nesbitt Burns before being elected MLA for Inverness in a 2009 by-election.
Chris d’Entremont will be the PC House Leader and the critic for Energy, the Utility and Review Board, Acadian Affairs and Communications Nova Scotia. He has extensive experience in government including Minister of several senior departments. d’Entremont represents the new constituency of Argyle – Barrington.
Chuck Porter will be the critic for Health and Wellness and Emergency Management. Prior to his election to the Legislature in 2006, Hants West MLA Porter was a Councillor for the Town of Windsor and a paramedic.
Eddie Orrell will be the critic for Community Services, the Public Service Commission, Workers Compensation Act, the Disabled Persons’ Commission Act, Voluntary Sector and Youth. Prior to winning the Cape Breton North by-election in 2011, Orrell worked as a physiotherapist. He represents Northside – Westmount.
John Lohr will be the critic for Agriculture and Fisheries and Aquaculture. He is a farmer and successful agri-business entrepreneur. Lohr is a graduate of the Nova Scotia Agricultural College and the University of Guelph, where he completed a Bachelor of Science (Honours) in plant protection. Lohr is newly elected to represent Kings North.
Karla MacFarlane will be the critic for Economic and Rural Development and Tourism, Environment, the Advisory Council – Status of Women and Nova Scotia Business Inc. She has an associate degree in business communications from Husson University in Maine and is owner and operator of The Ship Hector Company Store in Pictou. MacFarlane is newly elected to represent Pictou West.
Larry Harrison will be the critic for Communities, Culture and Heritage, Seniors and Senior Citizens’ Secretariat and Military Relations. Harrison completed his Bachelor of Arts with a double major in History and Political Science at the University of New Brunswick and his Master of Divinity at the Atlantic School of Theology. After his ordination, he served as an Associate Minister at Saint Paul’s United Church in Fredericton, before moving to serve the Brookfield/Middle Stewiacke pastoral charge. Harrison is newly elected to represent Colchester – Musquodoboit Valley.
Pat Dunn will be the PC Caucus Chair and the critic for Education and Early Childhood Development, Labour and Advanced Education and African Nova Scotia Affairs. Dunn received his Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Education and Masters of Education in Administration at St. Francis Xavier University. He was first elected in 2006 to represent the people of Pictou Centre and returns to Legislature in 2013.
Tim Houston will be the critic for Finance and Treasury Board. Houston graduated from Saint Mary’s University with a Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting and earned his Chartered Accountancy designation. He is an owner of Velsoft Training Materials Limited and a related company znanja Inc. Houston is newly elected to represent Pictou East.
Jamie Baillie is the leader of the Official Opposition and the PC Party of Nova Scotia. He is the critic for the Premier’s Office, Intergovernmental Affairs and Policy and Priorities. Baillie will also be responsible for Immigration, an important priority of the PC Party and the province.
