On This Day in Canada’s Political History: Future PM Justin Trudeau’s Maiden Speech in the Commons

As readers of “Art’s History” are aware, there are no more important dates on the Canadian political history calendar than the birthday of our Prime Ministers.  Next to those anniversaries, of course, marking the maiden Parliamentary addresses of the Prime Ministers of Canada are crucial dates for those of us who are historically minded.So, a happy anniversary to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, as it was this date in 2009 that he delivered his first-ever remarks in the House. Hon. Brian Mulroney’s best-selling Memoirs and also served as a speechwriter to then-Prime Minister Stephen Harper and as a Fellow of the Queen’s Centre for the Study of Democracy under the leadership of Tom Axworthy.  A resident of Kingston, Ontario, Milnes serves as the in-house historian at the 175 year-old Frontenac Club Hotel.
