Today in Canada’s Political History: Erin O’Toole elected Canada’s Conservative leader

Canada’s Conservatives elected a new leader on this date one-year-ago with Erin O’Toole beating Peter MacKay to earn the title of Leader of the Opposition. An Ontario MP and former cabinet minister under Prime Minister Stephen Harper, O’Toole is also a proud veteran of service in Canada military. Now, one-year later, O’Toole is in the midst of an election campaign, facing off against Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and his Liberals. Unlike his predecessor, Andrew Scheer, O’Toole is much more moderate and progressive on social issues. As noted, we are now in an election period and I’d like to salute Erin O’Toole and all our national leaders, and their families, as well as all candidates from all parties, for putting their names forward. No matter what happens on the evening of September 20, all these men and women are already winners.[caption id="attachment_581667" align="alignnone" width="650"] Erin O’Toole[/caption]Arthur Milnes is an accomplished public historian and award-winning journalist.  He was research assistant on The Rt.
