It is a great personal and professional pleasure to send out birthday greetings to former British Columbia Premier Christy Clark, who was born on this date in 1965, in Burnaby, B.C.,
Ms. Clark won the leadership of the B.C. Liberal Party in early 2011 and served with distinction as the 35th Premier of her province between 2011 and 2017. Only the second woman to hold B.C.’s top political job, she followed in the footsteps of Rita Johnson who in 1991 became the first female premier of the province
In 2016, while serving as Premier, she honoured my work by penning a commentary essay on my book that collected the greatest of Sir Wilfrid Laurier’s addresses, Canada Always: The Defining Speeches of Sir Wilfrid Laurier. I remain in her debt to this day.
Since leaving politics, Ms. Clark has become a much sought-after commentator and has earned the respect of partisans of all stripes for her perceptive observations of national and provincial politics.

Brian Mulroney’s best-selling Memoirs and also served as a speechwriter to then-Prime Minister Stephen Harper and as a Fellow of the Queen’s Centre for the Study of Democracy under the leadership of Tom Axworthy. A resident of Kingston, Ontario, Milnes serves as the in-house historian at the 175 year-old Frontenac Club Hotel.
