Today in Canada’s Political History: Prime Minister Dief receives an Honorary Degree from DePauw University

John Diefenbaker was in Indiana on this date in 1960 to receive an Honorary Degree and to deliver an important foreign policy address. During his speech at DePauw University, Dief discussed Western relations with the Soviet Union, the reforms he felt needed to be made in the NATO alliance, and Canada and America’s role in the world. Most importantly, he called upon the larger member-States in NATO, particularly America, to improve their consultation efforts with smaller countries like Canada.
